Refund and Cancellation Policy
Knowledge That Saves Lives
Effective Date: September 17, 2026
Last Updated: September 16, 2026
FireWise Academy is committed to providing high-quality professional education and a fair and transparent purchasing experience.
This Refund and Cancellation Policy applies to courses and educational products purchased directly from FireWise Consulting Ltd. or FireWise Academy unless different terms are expressly identified for a particular program, contract or organizational purchase.
Nothing in this Policy limits any cancellation, refund or other consumer right that applies under applicable law.
1. Individual Online Course Purchases
Unless otherwise stated for a particular course, an individual learner may request cancellation and a refund within 14 calendar days of purchase, provided that the learner:
has completed no more than 10% of the course;
has not completed or attempted a final examination or major summative assessment;
has not received a course completion certificate or credential; and
has not downloaded or otherwise accessed materials specifically identified as separately licensed or non-refundable.
Approved refunds will normally be returned to the original payment method.
2. After 14 days
After 14 calendar days, course fees are normally non-refundable.
FireWise recognizes that exceptional circumstances occur. FireWise may consider requests arising from significant medical, family, employment, or other exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
FireWise may, at its discretion, provide an extension, course credit, transfer or other reasonable accommodation instead of a monetary refund.
3. Course Transfers
Where a learner has registered for the wrong course or cannot continue with a course, FireWise may permit transfer of the enrolment to another eligible FireWise course.
The learner or purchasing organization will pay any difference in course price. A transfer does not create an entitlement to a refund of any unused balance unless FireWise expressly agrees otherwise.
4. Organizational and Group Purchases
Courses purchased through a municipal, fire department, First Nation, government, corporate or other organizational agreement may be governed by the applicable quotation, proposal, purchase order or contract.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing:
unused learner seats may generally be reassigned before meaningful course participation has begun;
a seat may not normally be reassigned after the original learner has substantially commenced the course or completed an assessment;
activated or substantially used licences are non-refundable; and
FireWise will work reasonably with organizational clients to address staffing changes, employee departures and similar circumstances.
Where an organizational agreement contains different cancellation or refund provisions, the written organizational agreement takes precedence.
5. Certification and Third-Party Fees
Fees collected on behalf of, or payable to, external certification, accreditation, examination, proctoring or administrative organizations may be subject to the policies of those organizations.
FireWise cannot guarantee reimbursement of third-party fees that have already been remitted or become payable.
FireWise will identify any applicable third-party fee or restriction where reasonably practicable during registration or in the relevant program information.
6. Subscriptions and Continuing Education Programs
Where FireWise offers recurring subscriptions or continuing-education programs, FireWise will disclose the applicable price, billing frequency, renewal conditions, and cancellation terms at registration.
Cancellation stops future renewals but does not ordinarily generate a prorated refund for a subscription period that has already begun, except where required by law or expressly provided in the applicable program terms.
7. Courses Cancelled by FireWise
If FireWise cancels a paid course or program and cannot provide a reasonable replacement, rescheduled offering or equivalent alternative, affected learners will be entitled to a refund of the applicable course fee.
For online courses, temporary interruptions caused by scheduled maintenance, platform maintenance or short-term technical issues do not constitute course cancellation.
8. Technical Problems
Learners experiencing technical difficulties should contact FireWise before requesting cancellation.
FireWise will make reasonable efforts to resolve access problems. Where FireWise cannot provide access to a purchased course within a reasonable period because of an issue within FireWise's control, FireWise may provide an extension, replacement access, credit or refund as appropriate.
9. Duplicate or Incorrect Purchases
FireWise will correct and refund duplicate charges or demonstrably accidental duplicate purchases once verified.
Learners who purchase an incorrect course should contact FireWise as soon as possible and before substantially beginning the course. Wherever practical, FireWise will arrange a transfer to the correct course.
10. Statutory Consumer Rights
This Policy operates in addition to rights available under applicable consumer protection legislation.
For purchases governed by British Columbia consumer protection legislation, learners retain any cancellation and refund rights provided by the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and its regulations.
Where legislation provides a right that is more favourable to the consumer than this Policy, the statutory requirement applies.
11. Requesting a Refund or Cancellation
Requests should include:
learner name;
email address associated with the account;
course or program name;
date of purchase;
order, invoice or receipt number where available; and
a brief explanation of the request.
Requests may be sent to:
FireWise Academy
Email: [email protected]
Toll Free: 1-877-322-7911
FireWise will review requests promptly and may contact the learner or purchasing organization where additional information is required.
We will process approved refunds as soon as reasonably practicable. The time required for the refund to appear on an account may depend on the applicable bank, credit-card provider or payment processor.

Terms and Conditions
Knowledge That Saves Lives
Effective Date: September 17, 2026
Last Updated: September 16, 2026
FireWise Academy is the education and professional development division of FireWise Consulting Ltd. ("FireWise," "FireWise Academy," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms and Conditions govern access to and use of the FireWise Academy website, online learning platform, courses, assessments, examinations, learning resources, downloadable materials and related educational services (collectively, the "Services").
By creating an account, purchasing or enrolling in a course, accepting an organizational enrolment, or accessing the Services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and the FireWise Academy Privacy, Refund and Cancellation Policies.
If an organization purchases training on behalf of learners, the organization is responsible for ensuring that its learners are made aware of these Terms and Conditions.
1. Purpose of FireWise Academy
FireWise Academy provides professional education and training primarily in fire prevention, fire inspection, fire investigation, fire service leadership, emergency services, wildfire and related public-safety disciplines.
Courses may reference legislation, regulations, codes, standards, professional qualifications, industry practices and guidance applicable to particular jurisdictions. FireWise makes reasonable efforts to ensure course materials are accurate and current at the time of publication or revision.
2. Professional and Educational Use
FireWise Academy courses are provided for educational and professional-development purposes.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, completion of a FireWise Academy course does not:
confer statutory authority;
constitute appointment or designation as an authority having jurisdiction, fire inspector, fire investigator, safety codes officer or other regulatory official;
replace employer-specific training, supervision or competency assessment;
guarantee professional certification, licensing, employment or promotion; or
authorize a learner to undertake work beyond their legal authority, training or demonstrated competency.
Learners are responsible for understanding and complying with the legislation, regulations, codes, standards, policies and procedures applicable in their own jurisdiction and workplace.
Where a course prepares learners for an external certification, accreditation or examination, the requirements of the applicable certifying or accrediting body take precedence.
3. Codes, Standards and Regulatory Information
FireWise courses may reference publications produced by organizations such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Research Council of Canada, provincial or territorial authorities, standards-development organizations and other regulatory or professional bodies.
Codes, standards and legislation change over time. FireWise may update course content periodically, but does not represent that every reference will remain current indefinitely.
Learners should verify requirements against the currently adopted legislation, code, standard or regulation applicable to their jurisdiction.
4. Accounts and Registration
Learners must provide accurate and reasonably complete information when creating or using an account.
Each learner should have their own account unless FireWise has expressly approved another arrangement. Login credentials are personal and must not be shared.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login information and for activity conducted through your account.
FireWise may suspend access where it reasonably believes an account has been shared, compromised, fraudulently obtained or used contrary to these Terms.
5. Organizational and Group Enrolments
Fire departments, municipalities, First Nations, educational institutions, government agencies, businesses and other organizations may purchase courses for multiple learners.
Where an organization purchases enrolments:
the purchasing organization may provide FireWise with learner information necessary to establish accounts and administer training;
seats or licences may only be assigned or transferred in accordance with the applicable purchase agreement or FireWise Policy;
the organization is responsible for ensuring it has appropriate authority to provide learner information to FireWise; and
course access remains subject to these Terms and any additional written agreement between FireWise and the purchasing organization.
6. Course Access
Course access periods may vary by program. The applicable access period will be identified in the course description, registration materials, quotation, purchase order documentation or other enrolment information.
Access begins on the date specified by FireWise or, where no other date is specified, when the learner is enrolled and provided access to the course.
FireWise may grant extensions at its discretion, which may be subject to an administrative fee.
FireWise may make reasonable changes to course content, structure, assessments, technology or delivery methods to maintain currency, quality, regulatory alignment or compatibility with the learning platform.
7. Learner Responsibilities and Academic Integrity
Learners are expected to complete their own coursework, assessments and examinations unless collaborative work is specifically authorized.
Prohibited conduct includes:
impersonating another learner;
permitting another person to complete assessments on your behalf;
unauthorized collaboration;
copying or distributing assessment questions or answers;
using unauthorized materials during an examination;
circumventing course or assessment security controls;
falsifying course completion, attendance or identity information; and
using artificial intelligence or other tools to complete assessed work where their use has been expressly prohibited.
FireWise may investigate suspected academic misconduct and may suspend an assessment, withhold or revoke course completion, require reassessment, suspend access or take other reasonable action where misconduct is substantiated.
Where an external body administers certification, suspected misconduct may also be handled in accordance with that body's requirements.
8. Assessments, Examinations and Completion
Course completion requirements vary and may include lesson completion, assignments, quizzes, examinations, practical skills, projects, attendance requirements or other assessments.
A learner must satisfy the requirements specified for the applicable course to receive a FireWise certificate of completion or other credential.
Completion of a FireWise course does not automatically constitute certification by an external certification or accreditation organization unless specifically stated.
9. Certificates and Training Records
FireWise may maintain records reasonably necessary to document enrolment, participation, assessment and course completion.
FireWise issues certificates to the learner identified in its records, and they may not be altered, transferred, or misrepresented.
FireWise may verify the authenticity of a certificate or training record where authorized by the learner, required under an applicable certification arrangement, or otherwise permitted by law.
10. Intellectual Property
Unless expressly stated otherwise, FireWise owns or licenses the intellectual property contained in FireWise Academy courses and materials, including:
course design and structure;
written content and narration;
graphics, illustrations and multimedia;
scenarios and exercises;
assessment materials and question banks;
downloadable resources;
templates and instructional materials; and
FireWise trademarks, logos and branding.
Course enrolment provides the learner with a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the materials for personal educational and professional-development purposes.
Learners and purchasing organizations may not, without prior written permission from FireWise:
reproduce or republish course materials;
distribute materials outside the authorized learner group;
record or capture course content for redistribution;
copy or distribute examinations or assessment questions;
sell, sublicense or commercially exploit course materials;
upload FireWise materials into public or third-party artificial intelligence systems for model training, content generation or dataset creation;
use automated tools to scrape, extract or systematically reproduce course content; or
remove copyright, trademark or proprietary notices.
Reasonable downloading or printing of materials specifically designated by FireWise as learner resources is permitted for the learner's personal professional use.
11. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Processing
FireWise may use artificial intelligence and automated technologies to assist with appropriate administrative, instructional-design, quality-assurance, analytical or support functions.
Where FireWise uses these technologies, it will manage personal and proprietary information in accordance with its privacy and information-security obligations.
FireWise course content, assessment banks, proprietary instructional materials and other intellectual property may not be used to train third-party artificial intelligence models without FireWise's express written authorization.
12. Technology and Third-Party Platforms
FireWise Academy uses third-party technology providers to deliver aspects of its Services. This may include a learning management system, payment processors, email services, videoconferencing services, analytics tools and other technology providers.
The primary FireWise Academy learning platform is currently provided through Thinkific.
Learners are responsible for maintaining compatible internet access, hardware, browsers and software necessary to use the Services.
FireWise will make reasonable efforts to maintain reliable access but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Temporary interruptions may occur due to maintenance, updates, internet outages, third-party platform failures, or circumstances beyond FireWise's reasonable control.
13. Payment
Course fees are payable in the currency and manner identified at the time of purchase or in an approved quotation, invoice or purchase order.
Applicable taxes will be charged as required by law.
Where an employer or organization pays for training, responsibility for payment remains subject to the applicable quotation, invoice, purchase order, or agreement.
Refunds and cancellations are governed by the FireWise Academy Refund and Cancellation Policy and any mandatory rights provided by applicable law.
14. Communications
FireWise may send learners service-related communications necessary to administer their account or training, including enrolment confirmations, course notices, assessment information, completion information and technical or administrative notices.
FireWise will manage promotional or commercial communications separately and in accordance with applicable Canadian anti-spam requirements. Learners may unsubscribe from promotional communications without affecting essential course or account communications.
15. Respectful Use
Learners must not use FireWise systems, discussions, virtual classrooms or other learning environments to engage in unlawful, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, abusive or disruptive conduct.
FireWise may remove inappropriate content or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect learners, instructors, personnel, systems or the integrity of the learning environment.
16. Disclaimer and Limitation
Fire and emergency services involve inherently hazardous activities. Apply course information using professional judgment and in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, codes, standards, employer procedures, incident command structures, and local authority.
To the extent permitted by law, FireWise is not responsible for losses arising from the improper application of course information, reliance on superseded requirements, actions outside a learner's authority or competency, or failure to follow applicable laws, standards, manufacturer instructions or organizational procedures.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
17. Suspension or Termination
FireWise may suspend or terminate access where a learner materially breaches these Terms, engages in academic misconduct, compromises system security, infringes intellectual property rights, engages in abusive conduct or fails to make required payment.
Where reasonably practicable, FireWise will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue before terminating access, except where immediate action is required to protect people, information, intellectual property or systems.
18. Privacy
FireWise collects, uses, protects and discloses personal information in accordance with the FireWise Academy Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation.
19. Changes to These Terms
FireWise may amend these Terms periodically to reflect changes in its Services, technology, business practices or legal requirements.
The effective or revision date will be displayed at the beginning of these Terms. FireWise will communicate material changes affecting existing learners where reasonably appropriate.
20. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and applicable Canadian law.
Any dispute relating to these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia, except where applicable consumer protection legislation provides otherwise.
